Nam June Paik

Nam June Paik (1932–2006) brought television to fine art, treating it as a tactile and multisensory medium and subject matter. With a background as a classical pianist, he came into contact with protagonists of Counterculture Movement and Avant-garde Movement in the 1960s through his early interests in composition and performance, which had a profound impact on his artistic perspective, coinciding with the growing prevalence of electronic images in daily life. His pioneering works are considered seminal to the development of video art.
