Born in Jilin Province in 1965, Zhang Enli graduated from the Arts and Design Institute of Wuxi Technical University (now Jiangnan University) in 1989, and now lives and works in Shanghai. Everyday objects and traces of everyday activities are the dominant depicted subjects in ZhangEnli’s works.
He often transforms the subtle lines he sketches with the abstract color blocks to endow the pictures a concrete sense of texture and volume. In his series of installations, he creates the immersive space that suspends the viewers into the void of time and space by incorporating environment, history, and personal experience. By depicting different angles of everyday objects, Zhang Enli arouses the viewers to constantly think about the proposition of “existence”.
