Zhu Jinshi

Zhu Jinshi, born in 1954 in Beijing, is a pioneer of abstract art and installation art in China. He began to create abstract paintings in the early 1980s. After moving to Berlin in 1986, he began to experiment with performance, letters, and installation. Since 1994, he has been traveling between Beijing and Berlin, and currently works and lives in Beijing.
Zhu Jinshi has held many important exhibitions both at home and abroad, and what has made him internationally renowned is his use of Chinese art paper, bamboo, and other materials in the installations. As a pioneer of abstract and installation art in China, Zhu Jinshi’s creations have shown great vitality and extensibility, which is still present in his current creations.
His creations are not limited to any particular art medium or era. His art transcends geographical and East-West identity differences, presenting a personal history of artistic evolution from a macro perspective within the contemporary global cultural context.
