Jonathas de Andrade was born in 1982 in Maceió, Brazil, and currently lives and works in Recife in Northeast Brazil. He tries to carry out research in anthropology, pedagogy, politics, and ethics to reexamine the paradoxes of the modernist culture. He collects and catalogues images, texts, life stories, and architectural materials, and creates a personal narrative about the past through memory.
His works try to constantly rewrite historical narratives with a combination of fiction and documentary and create allegory and poetry to question the structures of gender, hierarchy, and race that are deeply rooted in the cultural paradigm of Brazilian society.
