A graduate of the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1982, Zhang Xiaogang currently lives and works in Beijing. Since the 1990s, Zhang has utilized a grim, introspective, and surrealistic artistic style to convey collective memory and psychological characteristics of his time.
Through his artworks imbued with personal experiences and sentiments, he presents and reinterprets the paradoxical relationships between individuals, bloodlines, and communities. His works epitomize the contemporary intricacies deeply embedded in the traditional Chinese context.
