Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg

Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg were both born in Sweden in 1978, living and working between Sweden and the UK.
Mixing animation, sculpture and sound, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg create scenes with psychological symbols dealing with human and animalistic desires. Since 2001, Djurberg has developed a distinctive style of filmmaking, using clay animation to dramatize the darkness and baseness of natural instincts such as jealousy, revenge, greed, cowardice, and sexual desire. Her partner, Hans Berg, a musician and composer, creates majestic background sound effects and hypnotic music for Djurberg’s animations and installations. In 2004 they began working closely together as a duo, creating a series of unconventional narrative works rich in symbolic meaning and emotional reach, mining allegorical myths and grotesque, nightmarish visions in pieces. The artists’ interdisciplinary collaborations increasingly blur boundaries between film, sculpture, and performance art by seamlessly combining moving images with music composition, set design, and artificial objects.
