Yang Jiechang

Yang Jiechang is one of the most outstanding and discussed contemporary artists in China since the 1960s and 1970s. He was born in Foshan, Guangdong Province in 1956.
His works incorporate a variety of artistic media such as painting, calligraphy, installation art, performance art and video art. In his works, he blends Chinese tradition with contemporary art and he is most concerned with how to revitalize and apply traditional Chinese aesthetics and ideas in contemporary art field. Since participating in an on-site creation at the “Magicians of the Earth” exhibition at Centre Pompidou, Paris in 1989, he has lived in Paris, France and Heidelberg, Germany for over thirty years while actively creating artworks around the world.
