Che Jianquan was born in Tianjin in 1967 and is currently a professor at the Department of Oil Painting of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, a doctoral supervisor at Thailand’s Burapha University, and a member of the Experimental Art Committee of Guangdong Artists Association.
As a cross-media artist, Che Jianquan has been working on various categories of art including painting, documentary, writing, and multi-screen image installation. His core focus lies in exploring the intertextual relationship between image and painting while emphasizing on the visual differences and mutual influences between manual painting techniques and video aesthetics and revealing the impact of the mystery and energy of nature on human landscapes.
At the same time, Che Jianquan tries to interpret relationship between “people and nature” as well as “history and collective memory” in contemporary China.
